Sunday Meditation: Destiny’s Door

Can’t gaze at my pretty little pond. Can’t watch the large, floppy, elephant ears (Colocasia esculenta) sway in the wind. Corrugated metal shutters block my view. Hurricane Irma went all Captain Ahab on me, and I’m on the run.

Two days ago, it appeared Irma would roar up Florida’s east coast, so my wife and I didn’t evacuate. This morning, Florida’s west coast — where we live — is in the path of destruction. Irma, whose “burning mind is barred out from the exuberance of love,” remains on the hunt.

Last night Jo-Lynn and I stayed in our cozy home, perhaps for the last time. Tonight we stay at a nearby secure building. After that? Who knows . . .

I’ll let you know somethin’ as soon as I know somethin’. In the meantime, be safe, God bless and give somebody you love a hug.

Here’s Hurricane Irma’s path as of Saturday, Sept. 9, at 5 a.m. We live just north of Tampa, 2 miles from the coast.
