Sunday Meditation 29

MLK continues to be an inspiration.

I’ve been sharing my meditations about life, the universe and everything since late last year. My most recent was Sunday, June 12. That post was about the massacre in Orlando. Bloody. So bloody. Too bloody. Stopped me in my tracks — churning up more questions than answers.

When I first started writing about my more spiritual thoughts, they were meant to be poignant and personal. Random and rational. Didn’t plan to solve the world’s problems. Didn’t know how. Instead, I wrote about friends, coffee, love, Elvis, my Mom, cats, Tupac, and Jesus.

Orlando didn’t stop me from writing. (That process began months earlier. You can read about it here.) The senseless shooting that killed 49 innocents was the last kick in the stomach, unfolding as I geared up for six weeks of physical therapy. (Apparently I can’t write and chew gum at the same time.)

I hadn’t planned to start posting again until September — but I felt better sooner than expected.

So I’m back — drumroll, please — 20 pounds lighter, with a clearer mind and a more joyful soul. Sometimes I just gotta get away. (Nothing personal. Know what I mean?) But let’s face it: I took this break as much for you as for me. Writing is profoundly personal — even when it’s shallow, I dive deep. You deserve that.

So, as I get ready for church, let’s leave it at this: Life is short. I want to be well enough to live it, if only for a little while. That includes writing. That includes sharing. That includes you.

God bless …
