In honor of National Pancake Day (Sept. 26) I’m launching a new endeavor for mornings when I get up too early to do anything particularly productive. It’s called “Short Stax” — a collection of tidbits I find surfin’ the inter-web.
LONGER TWEETS: Chris Welch at the Verge.com sez longer Tweets are comin’ Sept. 19. According to the veteran writer, “Media attachments (images, GIFs, videos, polls, etc.) and quoted tweets will no longer reduce the count. The extra room for text will give users more flexibility in composing their messages. ”
READING CLOSED BOOKS: Can’t tell a book by its cover? Doesn’t matter. In a story titled “MIT scientists invented a camera that can read books without opening them,” BusinessInsider.com’s Leanna Garfield writes that a high-tech camera developed at MIT can read centuries-old books without even touching them.
TINY GEORGE TAKEI: Sometimes ya gotta think small to go big. That’s the take-away from Sean Buckley’s article at Engadget.com under the headline “Microsoft launches Actiongram on HoloLens with a tiny George Takei.” The video featuring the former Capt. Sulu is worth a look-see.
BOLT BEATS TESLA: Chevrolet is targeting Tesla’s upcoming Model 3 with a new car called Bolt. USAToday.com reports that Chevy’s electric vehicle will be rated at 238 miles on a single charge; Model 3 is expected to have a range of about 215 miles per charge
