Guernica
If I were to pick just one modern example of humanity’s artistic ability to impact the larger society, I’d probably choose Pablo Picasso’s Guernica. Imagine in-putting everything about the devastating Nazi bombing during the Spanish Civil War of that vulnerable Basque town — then tasking a computer to create a suitable artistic response.
I can’t.
That doesn’t mean I don’t respect technology or the coming Age of Artificial Intelligence. It’s inevitable. What will it ultimately mean? I defer. But, for me, it’s tantalizing to ponder what Marshall McLuhan (of “The Medium is the Message” fame) would say about it…
