Did some free-lance magazine work many, many years ago. Never really liked the pace: Query. (Wait.) Write. (Wait.) Re-write. (Wait.) Then wait for the check — which showed up three to six months later. Plus, it seemed every magazine had its own (sometimes quirky) submission process. News Releases suited me better. (Usually paid in a month; sometimes in advance.)
